Description:
'The video is composed of two different scenes, the first being the interview where the subject is seated on a couch. She could be in her own home or possibly in a psychiatrist's office. The second type of scene is a kind of view into the character's mind or home life, showing her in action", lying in a bathtub with fake blood streaming from her wrists. Throughout the video she appears as satisfied and confident, and merely hints at a feeling of discontent with a nervous smile at the end of her speech.
I created the video "Playing Dead" as a way to speak about suicide with unsettling lightness and humour.
The character speaks about "fake suicide" as though it is a productive and fulfilling part of her life. Her dialogue has been modelled loosely around artist interviews, using self-assurance and confidence to talk about a ridiculous and disconcerting subject.'
