'"PULL BACK THE SHADE" is a photographic essay on American youth culture, which focuses on the life of Amanda Jo Williams, who resides in the bohemian town of Woodstock, NY. The documentary is on going in capturing Amanda's life as she emerges into young adulthood. To date the documentary has focused on the different relationships that Amanda has made and these people are present in the work over the last two years symbolising friendship and co-dependent relationships, as well as focusing on Amanda's family back in Georgia.
Experiencing motherhood from late teens has led to frustration and denial for Amanda resulting in her questioning her identity within society.
Overall the piece is a voyeuristic journey into a life and human condition. Pull back the shade is both a social account of America as it is an intimate portrayal of a "way of life".'
