Description:
‘The piece will consist in the operation between the ‘actual’ gallery space and the ‘actual’ artist’s space. The gallery visitors will be met by an installation which suggests a live activity of some sort. Within this a monitor presents relayed footage of Rob Hunter as an artist at work. The opening hours of the gallery will dictate the duration of the activities: that is, Rob Hunter in/around his studio space at Chelsea College of art (London) and Rob Hunter in/around the space established by his part-time occupation as an Esso Petroleum Service Station Attendant. The duration of the show will frame the artist’s progress in each discipline. ‘Commitment’ will determine the spirit of the piece. Elements from each environment will be fused together as an installation and planted in the show space. Is this the artist’s studio disguised as an Esso shop? The surveillance screens in the ‘actual’ Esso space will portray the activity in/around the New Contemporary Exhibit. Promotional devices (on sight) will be employed. The work is about the unseen movement from an activity to the next.’
