Description:
‘ “What is a Soul?” should be shown on a monitor with audible sound, so that you hear the song before you encounter the visuals, challenging preconceptions. The (…) monitor should be placed on brackets above head height. This piece investigates the ideas of the original voice and the nature of soul: the song recontextualised, implying an identity in flux, reflecting my uncertainty in my cultural position caused by my love of this song. The disparity between sound and image also emphasises an existential reading of the song’s title.’
